Anemia... and Citrus?

Updated: Jan 18, 2019

Anemia refers to low hemoglobin levels in the blood, and can cause fatigue, weakness, and pale skin. Iron is an essential part of hemoglobin, necessary to carry oxygen to all organs and muscles! . The most common cause of #anemiain a young otherwise healthy female is iron deficiency, from menstrual blood loss (iron is lost along with the blood itself). Girls thus have a higher daily iron intake requirement than their male counterparts. . While iron is found in many foods (including meats 🍗, green veggies 🌿, and enriched cereals), Vitamin C significantly enhances the absorption of iron in the gut. An excellent source of Vitamin C is #citrus fruit -- oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapefruit! Grab an orange (or 3 😊) to prevent iron deficiency ☀️🍊🍋
